Getting Started with Statmetrics

Installation

Step 1: Installing Java
The Statmetrics Software will run on any computer with a Java virtual machine complying to the Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) 1.6 (or higher) specifications. Java implementations for Linux, Windows, Mac and Solaris are available to download from Java website.
Step 2: Installing Statmetrics
Download the latest Statmetrics version from http://www.statmetrics.org download area.
Unzip the downloaded file to a folder on your hard drive.
Step 3: Run Statmetrics
Any computer with Java installed can also run the Statmetrics from the terminal/console as a commandline tool.
Open the folder " Statmetrics " and run the command: " java -Xmx512M -jar Statmetrics.jar "

Creating a new dataset

Step 1: Start Statmetrics.
Step 2: On the File menu, select Open Data Browser and open the New Dataset Wizard.

Step 3: Define the dataset properties as follow:

Step 3: Click OK.
Step 4: On the File menu, select Open Data Browser.
Step 5: Select the current dataset in data browser windows and open dataset editor by click on the button Edit Dataset.
Step 6: Select the tab Description and add the dataset description by click on the button Add.

Step 7: Define the dataset description as follow:

Step 8: Click Save and close the windows.
Step 9: On the Tools menu, select Data Downloader to update the dataset.
Step 10: On the File menu, select Open Data Browser to open the current dataset.

Importing the datasets description from list.

Statmetrics supports importing entire dataset descriptions from specially formatted Comma-Separated Values(CSV) files. This can be an effective means of moving existing data descriptions from other software, sites or spreadsheets into Statmetrics.

Step 1: Start Statmetrics

Step 2: Prepare the CSV file for import. We recommend using a spreadsheet program or text editor to create the CSV files.

Step 3: On the File menu, select Open Data Browser and open the New Dataset from List wizard.
Step 4: Open the CSV file and define used CSV-Data-Delimiter. (for example: " ; ")

Step 5: Define the dataset import properties as follow:

Step 6: Select the table rows to import and click OK.
Step 7: On the File menu, select Open Data Browser and refresh the data list by click on the button Refresh.
Step 8: On the Tools menu, select Data Downloader to update the imported datasets.

Step 2: On the File menu, select Open Data Browser and open the Import Data wizard.
Step 3: Provide or select the path to the CSV file.
Step 4: Select the dataset where you want to import the CSV file.
Step 5: Specify the delimiter that separates the property values in the CSV file. Enter a character, such as a semicolon ';'.
Step 6: Select the number format locale to format the number according to the country or region.
Step 7: Select the date format locale to format the date according to the country or region.

Step 8: Define the date format patterns. For example, the given date is '2001-07-04 12:08:56' and the descriptive pattern letters are 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss'.

Step 9: Click on the required columns to format the data as a date or number.
Step 10:
Assign the required column index to the data fields.
The column must be formatted with the same data type as the data field.
For example, the data field has the data type 'DOUBLE', ie the column must be formatted as a number.
Step 11: Click Import and close the windows.
